Get the Brad Pitt reference? I am sooo funny! Yes, I like to laugh at my bad jokes because I am an adult child. Part of what makes me an oxymoron is Blythe dolls. I collect the big-headed, wide-eyed dolls, and I am not ashamed to admit it! Well, this month, the official Blythe website revealed the promotional pictures of the upcoming releases Natasha Moore and Heart of Montmartre Neo Blythes and the Mabel May dress set.
Now the naming of Natasha Moore for a Blythe was speculative to some because there is a romance novelist with the same name. The inspiration behind the name remains ambiguous due to the description of the doll herself:
“Natasha Moore” is a stylish spy with gorgeous wine-red, wavy hair. She is mysterious with purple eyes, cool sunglasses, and a mole near her mouth. She wears a black and purple dress under a black houndstooth checkered coat. [BlytheDoll.com]
Maybe the name Natasha Moore just sounded really cool and spy-like. Hey, who am I to argue?
Last year, Takara, the Japanese toy company who manufactures Blythe, released a mixture of Superior Blythe (SBL) and Radiant Blythe (RBL) face molds. I was hoping she would be a RBL, but when I saw the actual promotional pictures of the doll herself, I was slightly disappointed to find her to be a SBL face mold. Not really my favorite, but I do not hate it. I just prefer the RBL face mold. Aside from her face mold, her overall appearance is really chic. I like her wine-red hair color and her stock clothes.
Unlike Natasha Moore, Heart of Montmartre has a RBL faceplate. This special little lady is a limited edition release of 3,000. Her stock outfit is whimsical with a little cream-colored top hat, black caplet, and a poofy dress with a merry-go-round design on it. In her description, it also says that she “fell in love while [she] was riding [her] favorite merry-go-round at Montmartre” [BlytheDoll.com], which explains the inspiration behind the doll herself. The pull charm she comes with is a little clear heart, and she is so cute, I could just gobble her up like a cupcake because, well, she looks like one to me!
Heart of Montmartre is sitting pretty at 16,590 yen. This translates to about 159 USD.
The new dress set called Mabel May also reminds me of a cupcake due to its pastel colors, arriving just in time for spring. Its look is ultra girly/feminine with floral print coat and pastel blue dress with white trim and embroidery. The purse that comes with it looks very DIY with the bird appliqué on it. This dress set is perfect for the Blythe who enjoys outdoor tea parties.
These new Blythe releases are very cute, feminine, and girly, and not just because they are doll products either. I like ‘em and cannot wait for them to come out. Not for me to buy them (I do not need any new dolls because I have enough as it is), but to see other collectors happy with glee from the photographs they will inevitably be taking.
